Water recovery & overboard retrieval (yacht)
Part of: Emergency & Safety Readiness
Manages the equipment needed to get your pet safely out of the water and back onboard.
What must be in place
What must be in place
● A pet recovery kit stored in one known place
● A recovery line long enough to reach the water
● A lifting aid that can support a wet pet’s weight
● An attachment method that does not rely on a collar alone
● A clear and reachable recovery point (stern, transom, or low access point)
● Tools that can be used one-handed if needed
● A non-slip grip aid for wet handling (towel or mat)
● Equipment protected from salt and sun damage
● Spare clips or connectors
● Recovery gear secured so it cannot fall overboard
● A line that is visible in low light or water
What can go wrong if not in place
● You cannot reach or secure your pet in the water
● Your pet becomes too tired before recovery
● Injury during lifting
● You are forced into unsafe positions near the stern
● Delay because equipment cannot be found quickly
What new risks or pressures this may create
● Recovery lines becoming trip hazards if not secured
● Lift gear taking space and needing maintenance
● Extra fittings interfering with normal deck use
